“Idol Star Athletics Championships” Will Not Be Held For 2023 Lunar New Year

This Lunar New Year, there won’t be an “Idol Star Athletics Championships” (ISAC).

“We are not preparing an ‘Idol Star Athletics Championships’ for this Lunar New Year holiday,” MBC officially declared on January 6.

The “Idol Star Athletics Championships” formerly broadcast twice a year, once during the Lunar New Year holiday in the winter and once during the Chuseok holiday in the fall. It debuted as a Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving) special in 2010. But because of the COVID-19 epidemic, the program was put on hold for three years before making a comeback this past September for Chuseok 2022.

Top idols in the nation participate in a variety of sporting events during ISAC to show off their flexibility. It gave viewers a chance to learn about the various facets of idols live and rediscovered rookie or relatively unknown idol members, becoming more well-liked among a wide age range of audience members.

Concerns regarding COVID-19 spreading during recording also existed, and incidents were proven. 2019 saw Chuu, a former member of LOONA, have her hair pulled by an ISAC crew member; as a result, MBC was forced to apologize.
